Honors The Nation’s Top Math and Science Teachers
Over $50,000 in InterWrite products donated to recipients of the
Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics
and Science Teaching
Columbia, Md. – May 24, 2006 - GTCO CalComp announces its donation of
over $50,000 in InterWrite Interactive Classroom products to the 100
outstanding teachers who won this year’s Presidential Award for
Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). As a Champion
Sponsor of the PAEMST program, InterWrite provided each teacher with an
InterWrite SchoolPad, or equivalent Interactive Classroom product, and a
personal site visit to help set up their new product.
“The outpouring of support we’ve received this year from corporate and
government sponsors has been overwhelming. We are enormously grateful
for their help in recognizing and supporting this great group of highly
qualified teachers,” said Celeste Pea, Ph.D., Program Director of
Elementary, Secondary, and Informal Education programs at the National
Science Foundation, which administers the awards program. “These
forward-thinking companies understand the value of partnerships in
education and the importance of the role these teachers play in
educating the next generation. We truly appreciate their contributions
to the education community.”
“InterWrite is committed to providing every teacher with the interactive
tools they need to teach and engage their students. We believe that a
truly interactive classroom is the best way for students to learn and
retain lesson materials, and our products are designed to help teachers
create this environment and connect with every child. Teachers around
the world use InterWrite products in their science and math classes so
we feel confident that the PAEMST awardees will get a lot of use out of
our products once they return home,” said Jon Koren, National Sales
Manager at GTCO CalComp. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to
each of the winners and we look forward to working with them for years
to come as they continue to incorporate interactive technology into
their classrooms.”
Awardees were presented with their awards and products at an official
award ceremony on May 4th in Washington, DC.
About PAEMST
Established by Congress in 1983, the annual Presidential Awards program
identifies highly qualified mathematics and science teachers in all 50
states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Territories, and
the U.S. Department of Defense Schools. The Presidential Awards allow
for each state to select up to three mathematics and three science
teachers as state finalists. From this field of state finalists, a
maximum of 108 Presidential Awardees are selected representing the 50
states and four U.S. jurisdictions. The recommendations of awardees by
the national selection committee are forwarded to the National Science
Foundation, which then advances to the White House. The President
announces the final recipients of the Presidential Awards. This year’s
recipients are 7th-12th grade teachers.
